इ॒दं श्रेष्ठं॒ ज्योति॑षां॒ ज्योति॒रागा॑च्चि॒त्रः प्र॑के॒तो अ॑जनिष्ट॒ विभ्वा॑ । यथा॒ प्रसू॑ता सवि॒तुः स॒वाय॑ँ ए॒वा रात्र्यु॒षसे॒ योनि॑मारैक् ॥ (१)

द्योतमान ग्रहनक्षत्रादि में श्रेष्ठ ज्योति उषा आई. इसकी बहुरंगी एवं विश्व को प्रकाशित करने वाली रश्मियां सभी जगह फैल गई. जिस प्रकार रात्रि सूर्य से उत्पन्न होती है, उसी प्रकार उषा का उत्पत्ति स्थान रात्रि है. (१)
