प॑ञ्चवा॒ही व॑ह॒त्यग्र॑मेषां॒ प्रष्ट॑यो यु॒क्ता अ॑नु॒संव॑हन्ति । अया॑तमस्य ददृ॒शे न या॒तं परं॒ नेदी॒योऽव॑रं॒ दवी॑यः ॥ (८)

इन में जो आगे चलने वाला है, वह पंचवाही (पांच के द्वारा उठाया जाने वाला). इस में जुड़े हुए घोड़े इसे ठीक से ले कर चलते हैं. इस का न आना दिखाई देता है और न जाना. यह अत्यंत दूर और अत्यधिक समीप है. तात्पर्य यह है कि प्राण, अपान पांच वायुएं जीवन को गतिशील रखती हैं. इंद्रियां ही शरीर को आगे बढ़ाने वाले घोड़े हैं. शरीर में आत्मा का आना और जाना दृष्टिगोचर नहीं होता है. यह आत्मा अत्यंत समीप और अत्यधिक दूर है.
