न यस्याः॑ पा॒रं ददृ॑शे॒ न योयु॑व॒द्विश्व॑म॒स्यां नि वि॑शते॒ यदेज॑ति । अरि॑ष्टासस्त उर्वि तमस्वति॒ रात्रि॑ पा॒रम॑शीमहि॒ भद्रे॑ पा॒रम॑शीमहि ॥ (२)

रात का पार दिखाई नहीं देता है. लोक व्यापिनी रात्रि में चराचर विश्व एकाकार ही हो जाता है, अलगअलग दिखाई नहीं देता है. जगत्‌ कांपता है, तथा प्राणी इस रात्रि में इधरउधर जाने में असमर्थ हो जाते हैं. हे अंधकार वाली रात्रि! सर्प, बाघ, चोर आदि की बाधा से रहित हम तेरे अंतिम नाम अर्थात्‌ प्रातःकाल को प्राप्त करें. हे कल्याणकारिणी रात्रि! हम कल्याण को प्राप्त करें. (२)
