यो मर्त्ये॑ष्व॒मृत॑ ऋ॒तावा॑ दे॒वो दे॒वेष्व॑र॒तिर्नि॒धायि॑ । होता॒ यजि॑ष्ठो म॒ह्ना शु॒चध्यै॑ ह॒व्यैर॒ग्निर्मनु॑ष ईर॒यध्यै॑ ॥ (१)

जो मरणरहित एवं दिव्य अग्नि मनुष्यों में सत्ययुक्त, इंद्रादि देवों के शत्रुओं को हराने वाले, देवों को बुलाने वाले एवं सबसे अधिक यज्ञकर्ता हैं, वे अपने महान्‌ तेज से दीप्त होने एवं यजमानों को स्वर्ग भेजने के लिए उत्तर वेदी पर स्थापित किए गए हैं. (१)

Those who are the deadless and divine agnis of men, who are truthful among the human beings, who defeat the enemies of the Indradi devas, those who call the gods and the most sacrificators, have been installed at the north altar to be illuminated by their great glory and to send the hosts to heaven.
