इन्द्र॑स्य प्रथ॒मो रथो॑ दे॒वाना॒मप॑रो॒ रथो॒ वरु॑णस्य तृ॒तीय॒ इत् । अही॑नामप॒मा रथः॑ स्था॒णुमा॑र॒दथा॑र्षत् ॥ (१)

इंद्र का रथ पहला, देवों का दूसरा और वरुण का तीसरा है. सर्पो का रथ अपमा अर्थात्‌ निम्न गतिशील नामक है, जो स्थाणु अर्थात्‌ सूखे वृक्षों से अधिक रमणीय है एवं तेज चलता है. (१)

Indra's chariot is the first, the second of the Devas and the third of Varuna. The chariot of serpents is called Apma i.e. low dynamic, which is more delightful than Sthanu i.e. dry trees and moves fast. (1)
