इन्द्र॑स्तुरा॒षाण्मि॒त्रो वृ॒त्रं यो ज॒घान॑ य॒तीर्न । बि॒भेद॑ व॒लं भृगु॒र्न स॑सहे॒ शत्रू॒न्मदे॒ सोम॑स्य ॥ (३)

शत्रु विनाशक एवं समस्त प्राणियों के मित्र इंद्र ने वृत्र राक्षस को आसुरी प्रजाओं के समान मार डाला. जिस प्रकार यज्ञ करते हुए अंगिरा गोत्रीय भृगुओं के यज्ञ का आधार गौ का हरण करने वाले बल नामक असुर को मार डाला था, उसी प्रकार इंद्र ने वृत्र का हनन किया. इंद्र ने सोमरस के मद में शज्रुओं को पराजित किया.
